Little did I know when I was a spotty teenager that on the eve of the football World Cup 2022, I would be talking grid stability with a potential client.
To give some context the conversation revolved around domestic electric vehicle charging points and randomised delay functionality. For various reasons maintaining grid stability is a key Government policy objective for smart charging. One reason being as a consumer if I am paying north of 30 quid a day for my electricity, I am kind of expecting to get a constant supply.
I’ll attempt to explain randomised delay functionality in simple terms, in the unlikely event that England reach this year’s semi-finals and the nation grabs for a cup of tea (and there’s a power outage) the national grid won’t be further destabilised by electric vehicles all starting to recharge at the same time. Due to the regulation’s cars will all start to charge a different interval over a ten-minute period.
