I attending the 3rd in a series of OPSS virtual sessions regarding The Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations via Teams this morning.
Whilst it’s fresh in mind, a couple of observations from me.
There was a very high number of ‘live’ questions from the audience. In fact I’ve never seen such an animated bunch. The questions were coming thick and fast.
They could be put broadly into three categories.
1) Are my products in scope? (multiple questions regarding repairs, products under warranty)
2) Very specific technical questions regarding cybersecurity and randomised delay
3) Challenging questions about what constitutes a minimum requirement
It is evident from conversations outside this session and the type of questions being asked during the session that a number of businesses operating in the UK in this space will not be compliant with the regulations and an Enforcement Undertaking is the sensible option going forward.
Reassuringly from an enforcement perspective OPSS were at pains to stress that they will be applying a proportionate risk based approach to bring the market into compliance. Expect his to rumble on for some time to come…
