Whilst perusing the shelves of a well-known home furnishings retailer at the weekend, this pillow protector caught my eye. I wasn’t looking for it, it found me.

And the reason it caught my eye was,
“Sleep Naturally CBD Pillow Protector – Infused with CBD, Aloe Vera and Lavender to create a calming, comfortable and soothing experience. Known for wellbeing, CBD can help to reduce anxiety and stress so you can enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating night’s sleep”.

What’s interesting in this case (amongst other things) is that this particular company chose to throw in aloe vera, lavender whilst at the same time adorning the pillowcase packaging with cannabis leaves. Somewhat excessive maybe, I’d raise questions around the efficacy of the product – just how long a consumer can expect the infusions from this product to last, especially when they will by default cover the product with a pillow case..

Indeed, you really don’t have to look too hard to find these types of ‘infused pillow protectors’ products elsewhere – a quick google this afternoon has proved that. In fact, the market is awash with all manner of CBD products with a market worth of around 700 million whether it be oils, capsules, gummies, balms as well food and drinks.

So as demonstrated here, manufacturers are continuing to think of novel ways to entice consumers into buying CBD based products that include ‘help with pain relief, anxiety or insomnia’.

I am at ‘pains’ to inform clients the limitations of making such claims or circumstances (type of product) where such claims are prohibited.

If you and your business are considering launching any products in this space, get in touch as I can get you up to speed on the dos and don’ts before product lift-off.
