I’ve previously posted about the Darwin Awards and a cautionary tale of ‘foreseeable use’ for manufacturers of consumer products. The awards recognise those who have made a significant contribution to human evolution by selecting themselves out of the gene pool by dying or becoming sterilised via their own actions.
However, the criteria to qualify is quite strict so the killing of others doesn’t count.
I am looking to start a campaign to include the examples of shocking judgement which causes the death of your future immediate relatives.
First up, people who park outside the school gates and decide to keep their diesel engine running whilst scrolling through their phone for 20 minutes.
As the price of diesel is rapidly approaching £2.00 a litre the cost of this practice not to mention its environmental impact would seem a little reckless….
Average consumers should generally be assumed to be reasonably well informed and reasonably observant and circumspect, taking into account social, cultural and linguistic factors. In this respect these actions seem to become more common and regrettably no amount of government intervention, business innovation, standard development etc will change this behaviour. I’d always argue that meaningful societal change begins with individual change…
So unusually my CTA doesn’t include me looking to sell my regulatory services just a plea for individuals think more about their actions.
