Today is valentine’s day and as I spend a few days in Bantry, Cork, I’m keen to take a visit to one of my favourite bars in town to raise a celebratory cocktail/Murphy’s with my wife.

Being a safety conscious kind of guy and having a love for Jameson Whisky, I thought this might be a far more sensible endeavour as opposed to joining the general rat race of romantic hopefuls who spend on average £35 wooing their partners with flowers, a home cooked meal, a cuddly toy and perfume and such like.

Not to put a dampener of any plans you may have but the London fire service reported over 200 fires last year involving candles some of which being luxury brand fakes that not only can scorch your wallet but your home too.

Year on year safety experts warn consumers about counterfeit cuddy toys seeping in through our borders from China which might not be of an inherent danger to your loved one but could cause harm to a young child whether this be via small parts from it coming loose or by being made from highly flammable material.

So maybe I’m no Casanova but I do know how to keep my wife safe from candles, cuddly toys and my home cooking!….

A few cocktails and an couple of bags of Tayto is the way forward for the Lovells tonight….
