And OPSS launches the Product Safety Review consultation…FINALLY 😴
News broke on 2nd August that OPSS had finally launched the Product Safety Review that aims to protect consumers, ease business burdens and grow the economy. Ambitious but not before time…
My ex-colleagues at OPSS have been working hard to ensure within this piece of policy making that extensive stakeholder engagement is top of the list as we need to end up with something that coalesces with modern living much of which involves with now over 80% of the population buying online. ⌨️
I know all this because I have contributed my views from day 1, attended engagement sessions and feel hopeful of some decent outcomes that have flexibility, are proportionate and effective.
I logged into the broadcasting events the other week that OPSS hosted which broadly outlined the proposals along with each chapter of the consultation. It was interesting to see the questions flying in during the 90 minutes session which covered everything from e-labelling, pre-market risk assessments, product risk being linked to appropriate regulatory requirements and second-hand goods.
For me this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to crack down on the glut of products being sold online and for those responsible for placing them there to be held to account swiftly and justly. Also, it’s a time when we can all have a hand in shaping the trajectory of a product safety regime to make it fit for purpose and something we can be proud of….🦚
