During my TS career I dealt with several complaints regarding the quality of compost. Unfortunately, everyday household items were often found in the compost and latex was quite common feature of the complaints.
Marigolds, surgical gloves, prophylactics (used!), all found their way into the potting compost. So whilst it accepted that the product biodegrades, the speed of biodegradation depends on the environment and often what has come into contact with latex in the first place…..
I’ll admit to being a caffeine fiend, fortunately I don’t particularly have a sweet tooth so I stopped off for a coffee at a donut retailer drive through over the weekend…🍩
As I was leaving the counter, I noticed a display of balloons (free for children to take). 🎈
I quickly scanned the store for any other sustainability claims and was surprised to see this was the only one I could see..
It would have been good to see the following statement, “All our latex products our sourced via sustainable natural latex farming etc” but as you can see no such statement exists…
